Ran Kirlian – Elements in Motion [AOR0022]

Elements in motionStrange noises meets haunting overtones and static passages to conform a dark soundtrack for infinite landscapes.

After three years of exploring new paths in the dark-ambient side of my music, this album collects music that I prepared slowly and deeply.

This album mostly explores dark ambient landscapes and is strongly based in drones; all source material come from field recordings, overtone voices and found sounds with a lot of edition, stretching and effects. Synthesizers have here a minimal presence. The music in this album sounds closer to artists like Lustmord and Thomas Könner than my other albums.

First released at artist website as free download in 2004-2005; remastered version released at ad21music during 2010-2011 and later on Altera Orbe in 2012.

All tracks composed, performed, arranged and produced by Ran Kirlian at The Blue_Room 2003-2004

Review

«This release from Spanish ambient composer Ran Kirlian is another long form journey encompassing dark landscapes and ideas, taking the listener on an extended trip of 78 minutes. As Kirlian explained to me, synthesizers aren’t that prominent compared to his other recordings, they act more as support for the major layers of organic and industrial environments.

The music itself is a bit drone-like at times, but also moving to more floating nature at times. Rather minimal shaped, it’s accompanied by treated voices, some organic sounds of metals, stones and field recordings.
It is no easy music to listen to, but it is still worthwhile and rather hypnotic when listening through headphones.

Ran Kirlian – Dissolution [AOR0003]

DissolutionDissolution is the new exploration into dark ambient realms by Ran Kirlian after four years in the making and several sound experiments and project evolutions. The result is a collection of 11 new tracks exploring sound in a very organic way, where synth drones melts with environmental noises, acoustic sounds and voices to create soundworlds that drives the listener from the deeps of the earth to the cosmic void.

This album collects music from very different periods between years 2005 and 2009, mostly based on dark ambient and minimalist soundscapes and sometimes based on improvisation

Sound sources includes synthesizers, samplers, effect processors, bells, flutes, singing bowls, voices & treated found sounds

Vauxia Errante – Primigenia [AOR0015]

PrimigeniaPrimigenia is the new album by Vauxia Errante, a journey far beyond his previous full lenght masterwork Cambrian Spirits. Primigenia explores a much darker and organic side of Vauxia’s music with a high pressence of drones, experimental sounds and slow evolutions in search of a deep meditative state on the listener. This new album presents 5 sonic explorations full of complex textures, drifting soundworlds and highly processed field recordings forming a dense atmosphere between alien landscapes and underground flavours. The album, recorded during 2012 and 2013, features Ran Kirlian on synths and voices on two tracks as well as on mixing and mastering. Cover art and pictures also by Ran Kirlian.

His creative process combines electronics, voices, lo-fi noises and field recordings in a highly deconstructive research. Darkness, cavernous and underground are words that comes to mind after listening to Vauxia Errante textures and sonic experiments.

Ran Kirlian & Landru – Waterfront [AOR0006]

WaterfrontWaterfront is the consolidation of the first acclaimed collaborative work between the ambient artists Ran Kirlian and Landru, co-owners of the online ambient label Altera Orbe.

Recorded as a real time performance during one whole session and later mastered at the artists’ recording studios, Waterfront reflects the interaction between the sublime drones and ethereal ambiences created by Ran Kirlian and the hypnotic and melodic sonic riffs and tribal percussion loops composed by Landru.

Using both digital and analog synthesizers as the main sound sources, Waterfront has a very unique organic mood, mainly thanks to those background ambience landscapes provided by real ethnic instruments and dedicated field recordings.

Vauxia Errante is the alias of a history teacher born and located in Valencia (Spain) who prefers to remain anonymous in his music career. He started playing music in 2008 as a hobby influenced by his love for ambient and dark-ambient genres. During the last years, this innocent hobby has become a serious passion with a deep research and time-consuming dedication, redefining dark and drone music in which he classifies as Subterranean Ambient. His first music project was developed with the support of his long time friend Ran Kirlian letting them start some collaborative works.

His most prefered instruments are software synths like Reaktor, Kontakt, Alchemy and a large amount of VSTis and iOS Apps. He also uses to include voices and field recordings as source material for his sonic experiments.

Strongly influenced by the music of Oöphoi, Mathias Grassow, Thommas Köner, Vidna Obmana , Nik Parkin , Jeff Greinke, Alio Die, Viridian Sun, Lustmord, Zeit, Yen Pox, Nimh, Aglaia, Kenneth Newby and a lot more.

Ran Kirlian

Born in Hannover (Germany) in 1972 and later moved to Valencia (Spain), Ran Kirlian began exploring his own musical pathways in the mid-nineties and recorded his first album Shore of Darkness in 2000. Since then nearly a dozen albums have followed, among which include Obscurity (2000), Melting Point (2001), Sleeper (2004) and his lastest work Dissolution (2009). Also, two albums entitled Selected Works I & Selected Works II were released in 2007 collecting music recorded and released between years 2000 and 2007 from tribal-ambient to dark and space ambient genres.

His music, mostly focussed on tribal and dark ambient genres, offers a personal and intense approach to textural landscaping and atmospheres inspiring ritualistic environments, cold spaces and desolate landscapes. Defined as a self-taught musician, he uses to start most of his projects from raw improvisations that later evolve in a continuous refinement process.

With synthesizers and samplers as his main tools, his music tries to combine different sound sources like field recordings, exotic flutes, percussions and ethnic instruments like bowls and didgeridoos. This mixture carries evident influences from artists like Steve Roach, Alio Die, Robert Rich, Mathias Grassow, Oöphoi, Lustmord, Thom Brennan and Jorge Reyes.
