Q: What is a digital product?

A digital product is a file version of a multimedia element (video, audio, photo, text...) or some kind of software that may be purchased for dowloading into your computer or any other portable device. These kind of products are designed just for downloading purposes and as they are not physical they cannot be shipped.

Q: How do I get the files?

You will be able to download the files once you have successfully completed the order process. Although it may be done inmediatly after the purchase, you can choose to download the files later, following the link provided in the email that you will received once the purchase has been completed. For this reason, it is crucial that you provide us with a valid email address. Please note that you must download all files using the same computer and the same browser that the one you made your purchase with. You will have up to 5 days to download the files.

Q: What is included in these files?

Once the purchase process is completed, depending on the items you ordered, you may download a compressed RAR or ZIP file containing the following files:

Option 1

  • The entire album both in FLAC and MP3 files at 128kbps.
  • Full High Resolution Cover Artwork in aprint-ready PDF format.

Option 2

  • The entire album in MP3 files at 256kbps.
  • Full High Resolution Cover Artwork in a print-ready PDF format.

Q: Will I be able to turn your artwork into a normal CD jewell case insert?

In Altera Orbe we are working in the devolpment of a new concept in digital products. Although you may burn a CD-R at home and print out all the cover artwork in paper, Altera Orbe digital products are not intended or designed for this kind of use. We understand the digital product as  a "finished" one, ready to be heard and viewed in the digital reality, without having to convert it to a "physical" state.

Q: What kind of formats are the songs in?

Once you have decided to get an album in a digital format instead of a physical one, you will have two options available for the purchase:

Option 1

Lossless FLAC files, and MP3 (128kbps) files. You get the same album in a audiophile format and in MP3. Why? It is very simple, we just want to make things easier for you. This way, you may hear our music both in a Hi-Fi system (FLAC files) and in a portable player or a personal computer (MP3), all in one unique download and, for the price of one.

Option 2

MP3 256 kbps (playable on any computer or portable device). Nothing could be simplier.

Q: How long does it take to download one of your products?

It will depend on the speed of your current internet connection. As a simple rule, the faster the better.

Please note: we do not recommend downloading FLAC files if your connection is based on a dial-up modem. If you are on a slow connection, please consider buying our MP3 256 kbps files.

Q: What kind of software/program will I need?

MP3s: You will need a MP3 player , which you probably have already installed in your computer. If that is not the case, there are many free options available in the market:

  • Windows users: VLC Media Player, Windows Media Player, MusicMatch, Winamp...
  • Mac users: Natively supported, no added software needed.

PDF files:

  • Windows users: Adobe Reader.
  • Mac users: Natively supported, no added software needed.

ZIP compressed files:

  • Windows users: WinZip is a very popular option. However, recent versions of Windows may open this files natively.
  • Mac users: Natively supported, no added software needed.

RAR compressed files:

  • Windows: WinRar is the most extended option.
  • Mac users: Natively supported, no added software needed.

SIT compressed files:

  • Mac only: StuffIt is a very popular option.

FLAC: see the next Question.

Q: What are FLAC files and how can I listen to them?

FLAC stands for free lossless audio codec. It is an open source, lossless compression algorithm for digital music. It compresses music files to 50-60% of their original size, with no loss in quality. An extracted FLAC file sounds identical to the original source (44.1 kHz, 16 bit stereo), bringing you the full quality of our uncompressed master files directly from our mastering studios. FLAC files are much larger than MP3 files and will take longer to download. These files are intended for audiophiles who want the best sound quality available. More FLAC information can be found on the FLAC sourceforge site and in this FAQ.

If you want to play our FLAC files, first consider your current setup:

  1. Playing FLAC files in your PC or Mac.
  2. Playing FLAC files in your iPod, iPhone, iPad or any other portable device.
  3. Playing FLAC files in your home stereo, Hi Fi or any other high end equipment.

1 - Playing FLAC files in your PC or Mac:

WINDOWS USERS:

Download and install WinAmp, a multi-format audio player, and then install the FLAC Plugin for WinAmp. If you would like to use FLAC with your Windows Media Player (WMP) download and install the Directshow Filters for Ogg Vorbis, Speex, Theora and FLAC. This will allow WMP to not only play .flac files but .ogg files as well.

MAC USERS:

Download and install Cog or VLC Media Player a multi-format audio player and a multi-format media player.

LINUX USERS:

Or any other UNIX-based architecture: Download and copy "libxmms-flac.so" to your XMMS media player input plugins folder.

Although it is not widely known, FLAC is supported by many different programs. You may find some more info here.

2 - Playing FLAC files in your iPod, iPhone, iPad or any other portable device:

Some portable devices can play FLAC files natively, others do not support this kind of format. We recommend you to read carefully your player technical specifications.

If you want to play FLAC files in your iPod, iPhone or iPad, you will need to convert them to ALAC (Lossless) or to MP3 or AAC (m4a) in order to add them to your iTunes and make them available for all you portable devices. There is a wide range of free converters currently available in the market. However, we remind you that if you have purchased the FLAC format, in the downloaded file we also provide you with the album in MP3 so there is no conversion needed.

For more info about FLAC converters, encoders and decoders, please read here.

3 - Playing FLAC files in your home stereo, Hi-Fi or any other high end equipment.

Obviously, you can burn our FLAC files into a CD-R and play it on your CD player. This is the classic choice (see next question). However, new options are now a reality and maybe an option to the CD-R choice.

Q: How do I burn FLAC files into a CD-R?

FLAC files may be burned directly to a CD-R in a computer running some of the most famous CD writing products. In some occasions it is necessary to install a plugging in your CD writing program for the correct decoding and conversion of the FLAC format. Please refer to the documentation of your current Disc Duplication program and update it with the correct pluggins.

Q: I do not want to order over the Internet. Are there other ways to purchase these digital products?

No. As this is an online store, our products can only be ordered through this website.

Q: I have made a purchase but I cannot download the files. Why not?

First of all, do not attempt to download more than one file at a time an wait for each download to complete before starting the next. Keep in mind that our files are very heavy (300 - 500 MB), therefore some slow connections may experience download errors. If you have a dedicated P2P program running at the same time, please close that program before starting the download as it may be consuming all bandwidth.

In some cases, a small percentage of users will not be able to download this kind of files. This is mainly due to the use of firewalls or proxy servers in computers  from workplaces or specific networks. AlteraOrbe cannot provide technical assistance for this sort of problem. Please try downloading the files from a different location (home) or contact our This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

If you have further questions or any technical problems related to your downloaded files please contact our  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
